William Sloane (1906-1974) was an American author of fantasy and science fiction literature, and a publisher. He formed his own publishing concern, William Sloane Associates, in 1946. From 1955 until his death Sloane was the director of the Rutgers University Press in New Jersey. Before then, he had spent more than 25 years with several other publishers.
To Walk the Night was first published in 1937, and is a masterpiece of the school of slow-moving horror novels that rely on characterization and quietly building tension The story is told from the point of view of Berekley Jones, who relates the circumstances that led up to the suicide of his friend, Jerry Lister, to Jerry's father ound back-to-back with To Walk the Night, we have Sloane's other great horror novel, The Edge of Running Water, which is a love story, mystery, and solid tale of creeping supernatural menace.
