Fredric Brown (1906-1972) was an American science fiction and mystery writer. Humor and a somewhat postmodern outlook carried over into his novels as well. He was born in Cincinnati. He is perhaps best known for his use of humor and for his mastery of the "short short" form, stories of 1 to 3 pages, often with ingenious plotting devices and surprise endings.
“I'm called Howie, or The Professor I'm on Skid Row in Los Angeles because I want to know what it's like to be a bum, from the inside ut I didn't know I'd fall for a part-time hustler named Billie the Kid I didn't know I'd get mixed up in two killings, and that the cops would pin them on me.” The Wench Is Dead is one of Fredric Brown's most wild novels, flawlessly written and rarely reprinted.
